About DOCspaceAbout DOCspaceDOCspace is the new home of Canadian documentary. The first database of its kind, DOCspace is designed to help filmmakers and fans search out documentary films and the people who make them, with greater ease. This project is extremely grateful for the funding it received from the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, through their innovative Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund. The Documentary Organization of Canada / Documentaristes du Canada (DOC) is the driving force behind this project. Special thanks also go out to DOC’s partners in this project: Coptor Productions, Markham Street Films, Primitive Entertainment, PTV Productions and Symmetree Media. The goal of DOCspace is to help raise awareness and improve access and availability of Canadian documentary films. Despite success on the film festival circuit and good word-of-mouth as well as media, our documentaries are still having difficulty reaching potential audiences. Traditional outlets do not have sufficient shelf space for either rental or purchase of our documentaries, defining them as too “niche market.” Our response is to create our own niche market. This first phase of DOCspace, offers producers the opportunity to supply instructions to potential buyers about how and where to purchase their films. For an initial trial period, both DOC and non-DOC members will be able to promote their films this way. After the introductory offer expires, this feature will be available only to DOC members. In Phase Two we will create an online alternative distribution network for Canadian documentary films. and distribute directly from our DOCspace site. We are currently hard at work figuring out how to finance and launch phase two of DOCspace. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to DOC to help make this happen, please contact us.
