NSI Online Short Film Festival deadline: August 26

The National Screen Institute - Canada (NSI) is currently accepting films for the NSI Online Short Film Festival. The submission deadline is Thursday, August 26 at 4:30 CST. The NSI Online Short Film Festival is a year-round Canadian short film showcase with new films uploaded weekly.

Desktop edit systems with all the bells and whistles can easily cost $10,000 and far beyond. If you crave one, but you’re on a tight budget my advice is to buy the best machine you can afford. It’s best to start small and farm out what you can’t afford to do yourself, or don’t have the skill set to do well, like audio post or colour grading.

DOC Exposed application deadline - July 26

Members of the Toronto chapter of the Documetary Orgaization of Canada (DOC) are invited to submit a film to the new Toronto screening forum, DOC Exposed. The DOC Exposed series provides a forum for screening and discussion that focuses on the connection between film form and content, examining the art of documentary making and storytelling.

  • On Friday, August 6 in Toronto, Open Roof Films and partner Hot Docs are co-presenting a screening of the festival hit The Parking Lot Movie (and a sneak preview of Winnebag Man before its October theatrical release) as part of Open Roof Films' new outdoor film series.

  • The International Documentary Association's (IDA) 14th annual DocuWeeks Theatrical Documentary Showcase runs in New York City and Los Angeles - home of the IDA- from from July 30 through August 19. DocuWeeks will present over 18 feature films and 10 short films in theatrical runs designed to qualify the films for consideration for the Academy Award.

  • The DOC BC Professional Development Committee is excited to introduce a unique opportunity on Monday, August 9 for DOC members to test-drive Storyville pitches under the guidance of the esteemed Rudy Buttignol. Storyville will take place during the Forum at the Vancouver International Film Festival on Tuesday, September 28.
