Canada is set to be Netflix's inaugural move into the international market and Canada will also mark the first streaming-only service promoted by Netflix. Canadians interested in Netflix can go to www.netflix.ca and sign up to receive an email from the company when the service launches in Canada this fall.

The 27th Kassel International Documentary Film Festival is accepting film submissions until Friday, July 23. The festival runs in Kassel, Germany from November 9 to 14, 2010. The festival has an international orientation and a strong focus on new media presents. Each year around 230 international documentary films as well as experimental and artistic works screen at the festival. 

Members of the Toronto chapter of the Documetary Orgaization of Canada (DOC) are invited to submit a film to the new Toronto screening forum, DOC Exposed. The DOC Exposed series provides a forum for screening and discussion that focuses on the connection between film form and content, examining the art of documentary making and storytelling.

Hot Docs is coordinating the Canadian delegation to Sheffield Doc/Fest in UK, securing Canadian professionals value-for-money access. The registration deadline is July 20. Sheffield Doc/Fest is UK's premier documentary marketplace, festival and conference, taking place from November 3 to 7, 2010.

The Telefilm Producer Trainee Program gives members of visible minority groups and people of aboriginal descent the opportunity to gain above-the-line production experience. There are 6 spots available and the deadline is July 19.

The Directors Guild of Canada have announced the nominees for the 2010 DCG Awards whichtake place September 25 in Toronto. The four nominees for the DGC's non-fiction award, the Allan King Award for Excellence in Documentary, are: Ballet High, The Experimental Eskimos, Genius Within and Love Letters..

The Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC) has introduced www.SongPitch.ca, a new, free service for film and documentary makers, producers, music supervisors, and web content producers to find music created by Canadian songwriters. 

Monday, July 12 is the early bird price deadline for 2010-2011 Doc Soup Subscriptions. Subscriptions to Doc Soup in Toronto, Hot Docs' monthly screening series, which includes tickets to all seven Doc Soup screenings, as well as tickets to the 2011 Hot Docs Festival.

The NFB Mediatheque in Toronto (150 John Street) is offering  workshops and screenings for both kids and adults during the month of July. For adults, Green Screens: Homegrown Films, on Wednesday, July 7 at 7 pm, free followed by Adult Animation Workshop: Demystifying the Reel, July 13 at 7 pm, free.

The Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival is launching its fourth annual celebration of bringing strong, independent documentary films and filmmakers to West Sonoma County in California. The festival, which will be held in March 2011, is now accepting shorts and feature length documentary films for consideration.

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana is seeking submissions for its eighth annual event which runs from February 11 to 20, 2011.
